The most common type of literature read in today’s world in the US is science fiction; it is typically about vampires and zombies. I guess you could also call is “Action Horror” or other category that the director feels it is under. The “Twilight” series saga is most common in younger teenagers, but also there really is not a limit to who may be more willing to read it. Also “The Walking Dead” has become very popular since the new hit television show “The Walking Dead” came out, based upon the book that nobody really knew about.
It is showing that the cultural tradition is shifting to a more science fiction book. The books that people are reading the most these days have to do with some sort of fantasy or fairytale. With this being said the old classics still exist in today’s world, although they may not have as many readers as the new science fiction books that are being written in today’s time.
My personal literary canon is scattered a little bit, I like reading about zombies and such, but I also like to read the old classics about cowboys, my two favorite books happen to be almost the same, “Ole Yeller” and “Where The Red Fern Grows” are my favorite books, but “The Walking Dead” is becoming more and more of my constant reading topics

Literary Canon
The book "Twilight" is currently a literary canon in the United States. This is most likely due to the large amount of young readers and people who like vampires and ware wolves in America. The series of books seems to be aimed toward the young reading group of people and nerds. This shows how things in the country go through trends. The first Twilight was published in 2005 and the series didn’t explode until a few years later. Once the movie came out it was like an epidemic and the books sold off the shelves. If I were to think of a personal literary canon for myself I would have to say anything that was automotive. I prefer racing magazines and high performance magazines. The only magazines I subscribe to is circle track magazine and Diesel Word magazine. Circle track covers small tracks across the country and interviews the drivers. Diesel world shows modifications that people have done to they’re personal trucks and new upgrades offered for trucks. The reason I am interested in that than people magazine is that these are magazines about people who are like me and not celebrities. Because I could care less about how famous people live but it is cool to see stories about normal everyday people doing way they love to do.

Literary Canon
The United States has a huge selection of fictional novels that are popular among today’s society. Some are old and some are brand new. One of the literary canons of today’s generation would have to be Harry Potter. These books have sold millions of copies and have been made into multi-billion dollar movies. Its popularity comes from the well written story that follows a young wizard kid through his adulthood as he fights against an evil force. The story has an intriguing plot that keeps readers interested. Harry Potter’s story reflects on the United States views of magic and wizardry. It also tries to relate to the teenage generation going through school. The story of Harry Potter has become very popular and will probably remain so for a long time. One of my pieces in my literary canon is The Hunger Games. The story is well written and the plot holds on to your attention. The story of the young girls fight to survive is very intriguing. Every aspect of the book is detailed and makes you feel as though you are living the story making it one of my favorites.

What literature do you consider to be part of the United States' current literary canon, and why? In the United States the book The Great Gatsby is a huge literary canon. Due to the new movie that just came out, the old story that most people read in high school has became a huge reader for all ages! The sales on the book The Great Gatsby has increased to nearly double what they were before the movie was made. How do those selections reflect the cultural tradition of the United States? The Great Gatsby was written in the roaring 20`s, known for partying and living life to the fullest. Since the movie has came out there has been more people living up life. The book can be reflected by the richer group of people in the United States. On account that is who the c characters in the book were. What do you consider to be part of your personal literary canon? I consider anything in relationship with rough life and western life to be part of my literary canon. I am a fan of the Little House on the Prairie books, and other novels of that that genre! I enjoy literature about people growing up in hard times and making ends meet. They always seem to hold my interest better than others.

What I consider to be a current literature canon in the United States is “No Easy Day”. This book is about the first-hand account of the mission that killed Osama Bin Laden. The author, Mark Owen, writes about his account of what took place that night at the compound that held the terrorist leader. The reason it is a current literary canon in the U.S. is because we, as Americans, want to know how the person that plotted and carried out the attack on the Twin Towers died. The book reflects on our culture by telling the world what the men and women, in the armed services, sacrifice and the risk they take to get the job done. The U.S. was built on patriotism and that’s what this book reflects. What I consider to be part of my literary canon are books that tell a story about the troubles or a part of life the author went through. It also includes books that are a history lesson about the U.S. The battles, wars, troubles, and success we have been through.

Starting in late year 2005 the book Twilight came know to readers across the nation. This book consisted of epic battles between vampires and wolves. There are two sides Jacob and Edward. Jacob is this small town guy who just so happen to be a ware wolf. Edward is the new kid in town with his family and them just so happen to be vampires. Young females love the movies and few know males like it also. This started a whole new vibe of ware wolves vs. vampires. Later movies and more books came into the picture. This got the young generations attention quickly. This gets young men attention because the little action and the dominance it shows to see who better, vampires or ware wolf is. Young female like the movie because it’s also a fight for love, the two Edward and Jacob finds out they like the same girl so there is a little romance that catches there attention. This is kind of a normal reflection to the culture two opposites fighting.
Personally I like action/comics. When I grew up I was in love with Batman. Batman is the only true superhero. As you look at all the original superheroes they will have some kind of powers. When you look at Batman he does not have any super powers. He has different fighting techniques. Then there is the Joker he gives you a laugh with being a villain. Also he haves a very nice ride to top all the rest.

There are many different types of literary canons in the United States. A lot of influences come from movies and media that are being released at the time. Right now the Iron Man series and other Marvel Comic related movies are being made. Graphic novels consisting of these characters have really become more popular over the past couple years because of all the movie remakes.
Culturally these graphic novels would appeal more to kids and young adults that are living in or around a large city where they would be exposed to more media displaying the characters involved. This in turn causes a literary canon around given area because there are more people exposed to the literature. When movies are made based on a book, or books are written based on a movie, it causes that genre of literature to become more popular because the population of people only reached by movies will be introduced that form of literature.
The main types of literature that I find myself reading consist of mostly magazines or internet articles involving cars, motorcycles, racing, mechanics, health and fitness, and outdoor activities. I feel that these topics are part of my literary canon because they are the subjects that have something to do with my everyday life and the things that I am interested in.

Literary canon “Iron man” has become a big literary canon in today’s society; there have been a lot of different copies of comic books and cartoons. Recently several big hit movies have come out as result of the “iron man” comics and cartoons.it is an on going series, people want more of it. The comic books and movies are a pretty big tradition because they are full of action and adventure witch is a very popular category. It represents how one person can make a difference in situations, it catches people’s attention and that is what the public wants, it grabs them and holds there attention. What I consider to be my literary canon would be action, adventure, and comedy genres. For example hank the cow dog, big red, and most of the Anthony Horowitz books. They are all full of action and they hold my attention, they keep me pulled in and interested. They have helped me to enjoy what little reading I do accomplish and I can actually know what I am reading and understand it.

There are many different literary cannons in the United States but, I think that the current literary cannon in the United States is stuff like Harry Potter, or The Twlight saga. One because people like stuff with witchcraft and wizardry, and vampires and werewolves. It appeals to the cultural weird side of the United States. I say this because most people don’t want to read or watch stuff like this but some weird people do. That’s just what they like. people like all different things. Just what appeals to me and my friends might not appeal to the people that read this. I think that stuff in my literary cannon is stuff like Lonesome Dove, and old western movies and books. This is because I like stuff that reflects on the actual history of the United States of America. Stuff that actually took place in history is more interesting to me. I think this is because that’s how I was raised and brought up around all that kind of stuff. I think literarture like this appeals the the more hardcore shooting and killing side that people like to see. But like I said everyone is different and everyone likes what they like.

The books that the Duck Commander guys are writing are very popular and have become a part of the literary cannon in this country. The Duck Dynasty show, which they star in, has absolutely blown up in popularity also. Phil Robertson is the man that started the Duck Commander Company and he has come out with a biography that tells the whole story behind it. After people watch the show on TV they are drawn to learn more about the business and the family that is involved in it.
Part of the reason people are so interested in the Robertson family is because they still have a very tight Christian family and that is not common at all these days. Maybe some people grew up in a family like that and reading Phil’s bio brings back those memories or it might just be interesting to some people that have never met a family as close as the Robertson’s.
Personally I read some books, but I read magazines most of the time. I find that magazines are more informative on the things that I am in to and that interest me. When I do read books they are biographies or just true stories about real life.

What literature do you consider to be part of the United States' current literary canon, and why? How do those selections reflect the cultural tradition of the United States? What do you consider to be part of your personal literary canon? This could mean many types of literature but one is at the fore front of all these and that is tabloids such as the national enquirer , people magazine and other’s These are so popular because they are at every drug store, mini mall, gas station and market. It is impossible to walk threw a checkout line of any of these store’s without being bombarded with, news of the latest bombing attack or what famous celebrity is getting married. They are filled with news gossip, fun games and even things that are suppose to tell your future. They have something for everyone and that makes them appealing to all kinds of people. These reflect a culture of people that are very interested in the world around them. As the world turns Americans want to know what’s going on. Not that most people would do anything about what they read in these tabloids, but still just knowing for peace of mind. But me personally my favorite literature are westerns. About the old west cowboys and Indians and life back then and the struggle of living with no running water out on the plains with nothing around for hundreds of miles.

Literary Cannon
In the United States, the population has grown a big interest towards fictional books. Survival and adventurous books have gained a lot of popularity among the population of the United States. “The Hunger Games” have become one of the Literary Canons in the United States, and caught the populations interest because people can relate to the main character that lives in poverty and was forced in a situation because of the current government that was in charge. The book also became a literary cannon because of the small town girl was selected to stand up for herself and show survival skills with lots of eventful action that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats. This reflects to the cultural traditions of the United States because of the poverty, and the government taking control of the people, leaving the people to struggle and survive on their own. These images closely reflect to the culture of today because many people can relate to this, and can share many of the same emotions the main character experiences. I consider that “Diesel power magazine” and “Dirt Wheels” are currently my personal literary canon. These are popular magazines about diesel trucks and All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) that has a lot of technical information, and great reviews on diesel trucks and ATV. I believe these are my personal literary cannon because these are my current personal interest, and hobbies.

In the United States the largest literary cannon is the twilight series of books and movies. There are four books that have been written along with four movies. The movies that have been based off the books are what allowed the books to grow in their fame. There is a large fan base that surrounds the books and movies. The fan base for the twilight series is believed to be in the millions. The most noted of these fans is team Jacob and team Edward fan groups. The movies are what truly put the twilight books into the spot light. However, the movies do not depict the story told by the books as well as the books. The twilight series, however, is not the first long running book and movie series that has shaped the literary cannon of the United States. The longer Harry Potter series of seven books and eight books, which the seventh book was broken down into two parts, also set the countries literary tradition. The United States’ literary tradition has changed gradually over the years. It went from the Mark Twain novels to the fiction in books such as Harry Potter and Twilight series of books. The literary tradition went from realistic fiction to more of a science fiction genre and it probably will in the years to come. The Halo series of graphic novels is a part of my literary culture. The books are base off of the video game series. The books follow some of the games but mainly fill in some of the gaps that are in between games. Other books in the series tell stories of other events that do not take place in the games and add more depth to the universe that the games take place in.

Literary Canon John Hugo One very good book that is known in the United States is twilight. Most people know of the books Twilight. There are four books and they are all incredible interesting! In all four books; Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn all of the characters come to life in such a manner it makes readers never want to put it down! The books are about a couple in a relationship that the women is a normal human being and the man is a vampire and they have to protected his identity and other vampires from the normal word including the shape shifters. The reason for picking these books for the cultural traditions of the United States is because it is about a love war. Kind of like Bonnie and Clyde, which I happen to favor. The story of Bonnie and Clyde is a piece of western history in the United States. I like it because of the history and passion toward each other and their team of outlaws. There are many books and movies about the couple and their lives.
